UNGA Guide
Gender equality is fundamental to fulfill everyone’s right to the highest attainable standard of health and is a key driver of the Sustainable Development Goals. The pandemic has exposed vulnerabilities in social, political and economic systems and exacerbated a myriad of gender inequalities, which have further amplified the impacts of the pandemic. COVID-19 has increased women’s exposure to violence in their homes even as access to services and their availability has decreased. At the same time, the pandemic has highlighted the critical importance of global health security and the contribution made by health and care workers, the majority of whom are women.
Join us as we carry forward the momentum from the Generation Equality Forum for a discussion on the work of global health-related initiatives to tackle gender inequality and promote the need for gender transformative strategies in COVID-19 recovery and beyond.
