The United Nations designated January 27—the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau—as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. To recognize this significant and somber occasion, the U.S. Capitol Historical Society will host a webinar featuring one of the world’s foremost experts on the Holocaust to dispel its many misconceptions, and answer its most vexing question: why? During our webinar, we’ll also discuss the extent to which U.S. leaders knew that the Holocaust was happening; and their response to what became the greatest crime in world history: the systematic murder of 11 million human beings.
Our speaker for this program is Dr. Peter Hayes, Professor of Holocaust Studies Emeritus at Northwestern University and the former Chair of the Academic Committee of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.
