International Forum on Artificial Intelligence and Education 2021

The 2021 International Forum on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Education will discuss on how AI governance and AI innovation networks can be enhanced to direct AI towards the common good for education and for humanity. The event will be held both in person in Qingdao and online.

The event will provide a platform to discuss how AI governance and AI innovations can be aligned to direct AI towards the common good for education and humanity. The event will be structured around four sub-themes:

• global governance and national policies on AI in education
• mainstreaming AI competencies development in school education
• directing AI innovations towards inclusion, equity and quality in education
• promoting the use of AI in Africa: building the foundations in education.

Following up on the implementation of the Beijing Consensus on AI and Education adopted at the International Conference on AI and Education (May 2019), UNESCO organized an International Forum on AI and the Futures of Education in December 2020 and consequently published AI and Education: Guidance for policy-makers (April 2021). In addition, in September 2021, UNESCO launched the project on AI and the Futures of Learning to provide Member States with recommendations on AI-enabled futures of learning, ethical principles on the use of AI in education, and a guiding framework on AI competencies for school students.

The 2021 International Forum will build on the ongoing initiatives while contributing to the UNESCO Strategy on Technological Innovation in Education, Recommendation on the Ethics of AI, and the release of the global report Reimagining Our Futures Together: a new social contract for education.

The Forum is co-organized by UNESCO, the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, and the National Commission of the People’s Republic of China for UNESCO.
