Webinar on Social scientists and Genocide: The dangers of explaining "Perpetrator" behaviour

Understanding the causes and consequences of violence has been an important area of work at the Department of Peace Studies and International Development (PSID) since its founding in 1973. Since 2019 we have been organising events to commemorate the Holocaust. This year we are honoured to have Dr Leonard Scott Newman from Syracuse University giving this lecture.

Speaker: Leonard Newman is a social psychologist and a faculty member at Syracuse University. Among the classes he teaches is “Why Good People do Terrible Things.” He has edited the books Understanding Genocide: The Social Psychology of the Holocaust (with Ralph Erber) and Confronting Humanity at its Worst: Social Psychological Perspectives on Genocide, and is the co-author of Social Psychology: A Storytelling Approach. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Mental Health.
