Throughout 2021, beef supply chain actors, regional and national governments, and civil society organizations from Brazil and China have participated in a series of Flagship Dialogues, aimed at transforming the Brazil-China beef trade, making it more sustainable, safe and productive. The actions required for this transformation include demand side signals, including: private sector initiatives and public sector policies from China; supply side solutions at the national and jurisdictional levels in Brazil; and business-to-business agreements that ensure greater traceability in the supply chain.
In this Flagship Dialogue, partners will present and explore the findings of two critical studies and one private sector initiative: i) In China: the business case for Chinese companies to transform the beef supply chain, and policy recommendations for the Chinese government; ii) In Brazil, the costs and policy recommendations for modernization of the beef value chain in Brazil to meet Chinese demand; and iii) the specifications set out by the China Meat Association for a more sustainable supply of beef.
The discussion will involve a comparative analysis of these three initiatives, identifying gaps between demand and supply and agreeing on the next steps in the Flagship Roadmap.
