Non-communicable diseases including cancer are emerging as major public health problems in India. These diseases are lifestyle related, have a long latent period and needs specialised infrastructure and human resource for treatment. Cancer is affecting women more than men. Women are most affected by breast, cervix uteri, ovary, lip/oral cavity, and colorectal cancer. Breast cancer alone makes up 27.7% of the total cancer cases in women, followed by cervix uteri (16.5%) and ovarian cancer (6.2%).

Women are custodians of family health, playing a critical role in maintaining the health and well-being of their communities. In other words, healthy women will ensure healthy families, healthy communities and a healthy nation. It is alarming that awareness levels of women related cancers is low among the general population and even the medical professionals. Despite the established benefits of screening, coverage in India is low for women.

It is crucial to address the growing incidence of cancer among women with a sense of urgency with emphasis on prevention, awareness, timely diagnosis, effective treatment and palliative care.

In view of the above ASSOCHAM with Narayana Health is organising a timely webinar on Women Oncology and Care schedule for Friday, July 23, 2021 at 4 PM.
