Sustainable Development

Virt India

Capital markets play a crucial role in the economic development of a country by providing financial resources required for the long-term sustainable development of the economy. India is one of the fastest growing wealth management markets in the world and is expected to be fourth largest private wealth market globally by 2028. International investors are betting that the worst of India’s catastrophic second coronavirus wave has passed, helping to push the country’s growth to record highs. The enthusiasm has spread to other Indian assets as well.

We believe that to value India from the equity investment perspective, investors will look beyond the current human catastrophe and the country would probably emerge from the pandemic as the fastest-growing economy in the world. Further, long-term fundamental investors continue to look at India as a growth market. International inflows began to pick up in recent days following substantial outflows in May and June and investors could increase their exposure to India’s economy, which may have recovered from the 2nd wave by the end of the year. India has kept an ambitious target becoming $5 trillion economy by infrastructure creation, which would have the much-needed multiplier effect. The US $3 trillion market capitalisation of Indian companies shows the scale of its institutionalization with a larger number of direct investors and through intermediaries, mutual funds, insurance and even provident funds entering it.

However, to understand the expectations of various investors regarding Indian economy to adopt sustainable developmental models, ASSOCHAM is organizing a Webinar on ‘India’s Capital Market from International Perspective’ on Friday, 23rd July, 2021 at 4.30 p.m. The Webinar will be attended by various National and International stakeholders, regulators, technology providers, intermediaries and institutional and retail participants.
