The identified focused theme for the 1st Capacity Building program is on "Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations 2020" which will be conducted on 21st May from 10.30-12.00 hrs [IST].

FSSAI has notified Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020, prescribing the Labelling requirements of pre-packaged foods and display of essential information on premises where food is manufactured, processed, served and stored. The Regulations are in suppression of Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labelling) Regulations, 2011 and Food Business Operators (FBOs) must comply with all the provisions of the Regulations from July 2022.

Food label is one of the main communication links between manufacturers and consumers. The existing FSS (Labelling and Display) regulation, is consumer oriented and aimed to give sufficient and relevant information to the consumer and promote the healthy choices and habits. The regulation also emphasizes to enable consumers to make informed choices about the food they purchased from market, restaurants and e commerce. The FSSAI has also reconciled its Labelling Laws with the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules which operate in general domain of packaged products avoiding any room for ambiguity.
